Friends of Camp Geiger hosted their 9th Lehigh Valley Civil War Days in Whitehall Township.

The usually serene Whitehall Parkway Recreation Area was anything but this weekend.

The Friends of Camp Geiger took over the 110-acre park and transformed it into an encampment for Civil War buffs and held re-enactments of two phases of a key battle in the war on Sunday.

The Battle of Hanover Court House took place on May 27, 1862 in Virginia. Union troops defeated Confederate troops in a campaign that claimed an estimated 1,327 casualties, according to americancivilwar.com.

This is the ninth year the Friends of Camp Geiger has organized Lehigh Valley Civil War Days. In addition to the re-enactments, the two-day event included battlefield lectures, trench battles and tours and a twilight concert on Saturday.
